Public to have their say on Poulton Police Station transformation

Plans for the redevelopment of the former Poulton Police Station will go on display at a public consultation event on Tuesday, 26th November. The station closed down in 2018 when officers relocated to new Police headquarters in Blackpool and it has been vacant ever since. The site was purchased by Blackpool based Choice Hotels in February of this year and now the new owners are keen to hear what locals have to say about their vision for the building.

The consultation event will take place from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm at the site of the former Police Station. A team from Choice Hotels will be on hand to talk through designs, answer questions and receive comments on the new proposals, branded as ‘Bobby’s Yard’.

The site is set to become an artisan food hall, offering the best in local, independent food and drink. The existing station building and its historic features are to be retained. Business space for independent deli’s, cafe’s or food & beverage retailers will be created at the front of the building with outdoor seating overlooking the market square. Entrance to the food hall will be through the prominent station archway meaning the existing street scene will remain largely unchanged.

The remainder of the station is to be refurbished and external ancillary buildings at the rear of the station are to be demolished to make way for a 120 cover dining courtyard. Set around the courtyard will be several ‘market stalls’ for food & beverage operators and a first-floor mezzanine will offer additional seating and stalls.

A spokesperson for Choice Hotels said “Poulton is a place where we have been looking to invest for some time, however finding the right property was key. The former police station is an exciting site at the heart of Poulton’s town centre and will allow us to be fully immersed in the Poulton community.”

Deborah Smith of Planning Consultants, Smith & Love said “As a local business, Choice Hotels are committed to doing the right thing by the former station. Their vision is to integrate the old and new to create a modern food & beverage destination in a unique setting. Bobby’s Yard will celebrate and promote the best of Poulton-le-Fylde and provide a fantastic opportunity for new and established businesses to be part of this unique dining experience.

Plans have been developed by Stanton Andrews who designed the award-winning Bowland Food Hall at Holmes Mill, Clitheroe. The acting agent is Smith & Love, Preston.
